PaluPala, new UNZASU president

PALUPALA, NEW UNZASU PRESIDENT In many people’s minds, it was out of over-zealousness, overrating oneself and a failure to introspect himself when Shadreck Mumba aka Palu Pala, a third year Media and Communication Studies (MCS) student declared his intention to contest the the  presidency of  University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) this year. What was deemed as a dream has come true following the Monday, September 30, 2019 election. UNZASU ELECTIONS POSTPONED By Busiku Last week was all political at the University of Zambia (UNZA) after ballots ran out during the voting process. The voters who were up and queuing as early as 5 AM on Friday to vote for the new University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) leadership, were disappointed after learning that the elections could not continue due to the shortage of ballot papers. UNZASU Electoral Commission Chairperson Kasanga Ngulube explained that the elections were suspended as safety and security reasons could not allow for continuation of polls. The elections were then moved to Monday which did not set in well with the UNZA Populace as it raised mixed feelings as some students took to social media to air their anger. Others used the situation to sell their propaganda, alleging that it was a strategy and opportunity for some losing candidates to steal votes. UNZA STUDENTS TO REBRAND HIP-HOP By Suwilanji Sickest Beats Ever Crew performing on stage at Cresta Golf View Hotel - Picture by Mwiche Namukonda                           University of Zambia students are set to storm into the music industry by creating a record label called Sickest Beats Ever. The group label which has been in existence for more than a year plans to bring out more of the hip hop genre and recruit new artists from the University of Zambia who aspire to do more in the industry than just doing music as a hobby. The music label which consisting of three male students namely Suwilanji Siame, Yemu M'sumba and Bune Mwengwe whose stage names are Slick, Roller and Sliq Andy respectively are set to host their second annual event 'Slippery 19' pool party this October. MINISTER OF SPORTS OFFICIATES AT UNZA SPORTS DAY By Busiku UNZA students during aerobics at UNZA : Picture by Robert Sintufya Minister of Sports, Emmanuel Mulenga has advised University of Zambia (UNZA) students to always spare time for physical exercises to reduce the risk of suffering from non-communicable diseases. Mulenga encouraged all students to participate in physical exercises regularly in order for them to keep fit and avoid developing various health complications that might disturb their academic life in the near future. “I am here to remind you that it is very important to exercise every morning due to the increase of non-communicable diseases that you can easily sweat off so that you can concentrate on your studies and achieve your objectives,” he said. WALLAH CALLS FOR PEACEFUL UNZASU CAMPAIGNS    By Robby  University of Zambia Student Union (UNZASU) President Warran Hamusunga during a briefing in NELT at UNZA: Picture by Robert Sintufya University of Zambia Students Union president has urged the student populace to be peaceful in the on-going campaigns for the forthcoming UNZASU elections. Warran Hamusunga said students should desist from acts of violence so as to set an example that they are from the highest learning institution in the country. This call comes in the wake of  an incident in which a room of one of the UNZASU aspiring candidate was almost set ablaze.  Hamusunga said it is unacceptable that students can be involved into acts of violence over democratic elections. UNIMA VISITS UNZA By. Robert and Busiku The University of Malawi (UNIMA) Student Representatives have arrived at the University of Zambia (UNZA)  for a four day visit. UMSU students meets UNZASU at UNZA on Saturday :picture by  Robert Sintufya  University of Malawi Students Union (UMSU) president Kondwani Mangoni arrived with 11 other student representatives from UNIMA for a student exchange programme. The union which was led by the Dean of students arrived in the early hours of Saturday last week and was received by the University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) president, Warren Hamusunga. The Student Representatives are currently being hosted at UNZA Commonwealth building. UNZA has enjoyed excellent relations and cooperation with students from Malawi. Early this year, students from UNZA particularly those doing special education did visit Malawi.  -ENDS-
